1.Introduction

In Parts 1 and 2 of our Survey of Financial Professionals conducted in May and June 1999,which targeted human resources managers at Japanese and foreign financial institutions, wereported that despite the growing demand for money management professionals, more aggres-sivemid-career hiring, and efforts to revise evaluation and compensation systems, Japanesefinancial institutions still lag behind in the treatment of professionals.

In Parts 1 and 2 of our Survey of Financial Professionals conducted in May and June 1999,which targeted human resources managers at Japanese and foreign financial institutions, wereported that despite the growing demand for money management professionals, more aggres-sivemid-career hiring, and efforts to revise evaluation and compensation systems, Japanesefinancial institutions still lag behind in the treatment of professionals.

These findings point out major issues in the future of HRM systems and treatment as theemployment market becomes increasingly fluid.
